Concerts, Sandy Hook Fundraisers This Weekend

From Darien to the towns around us, if you're looking for something to do this weekend we've got you covered.

Whether you're in search of something fun to do with the kids or you have a babysitter and are planning a night out, here's a variety of events taking place today and tomorrow to help you make the most of your weekend. Click on the each headline for more information.

The Park City Players Present: Great American Love Songs

Where: 275 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport, CT

Cost: $18

Description: All you need is Love! ...And The Park City Players will take care of the rest. A cast of sixteen performers will shower the audience with six decades of love songs in their Annual Cabaret at The Bijou Theatre. This labor of love includes selections from The Beatles, Michael Buble, Carrie Underwood, Frankie Valle, Whitney Houston, & Frank Sinatra.

Choral Evensong and Concert Featuring the Saecula Women's Choir

Where: St. John’s Episcopal Church, 768 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport

When: 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19

Cost: $5

Description: The Saecula Women’s Choir, under the direction of Thomas Brand, will present a Choral Evensong Service and Concert. This performance is the official debut of the Saecula Women’s Choir, a choir comprised of alumnae and several current choristers of the nationally renowned Elm City Girls’ Choir, based in New Haven. The service music will include choral settings of traditional Evensong texts as well as contemporary arrangements of hymns and folksongs. A reception follows the service.

Ridgefield: A Concert for Hope and Healing

Where: Ridgefield Playhouse, 80 East Ridge Road, Ridgefield

When: Saturday, Jan. 19, and Sunday, Jan. 20, at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Cost: Range from $45 to $400

Description: Performers on Saturday include Edie Brickell, Bernie Williams, Kicking Daisies, Carly and Eliza, Bobby Paltauf and the Steve Clarke Trio, and on Sunday, Johnny Winter and his band, Ed Kowalczyk from the band Live, Gary Portnoy, Whiskey Preacher, Chris Berardo and the Desperados, Wagon Wheel Band and more. One hundred percent of the proceeds of these concerts will go towards a memorial park to honor the memory of the victims as well as ongoing psychological trauma help for the survivors.

Description: Join us Saturday January 19th from 9AM to Noon.  Enjoy Breakfast and Fellowship, along with a morning filled with Praise & Worship and music with Minister of Music Jonathan Peters and the Word Alive Choir.

Stamford MLK Day of Service 2013

Description: On Saturday, the weekend leading up to Martin Luther King Day, January 19, 2013, Service For Peace (SFP) will lead hundreds of local volunteers as part of a nationwide initiative designed to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy of public service.

Fairfield: Sacred Heart University Performing Arts Benefit

Where:

When: Saturday, Jan. 19, 8 p.m.

Cost: Donations requested.

Description: The "Performing for the Angels of Sandy Hook" is a benefit show. Donations will go to the Sandy Hook Elementary School Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Oxford: Winter Carnival for Children

Where: Christ Church Quaker Farms

When: Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Cost: Free

Description: Old fashioned fun.  Games and prizes, ice skating and horse drawn sleigh rides.  Food and fun.  Come and stay as long as you like.
