Darien Resident to Receive WWII Victory Medal

Second Lieutenant Orlando Francesconi served in North Africa and Sicily during the war.

Darien resident Orlando Francesconi is set to receive a World War II Victory Medal in recognition of his military service during a ceremony on Friday.

Francesconi served in North Africa and Sicily as a U.S. Army corporal and completed his tour of duty (1941-1944) as a second lieutenant.

The World War II Victory Medal, established by Congress in 1945, is accorded to any member of the military who was on active duty or served as a reservist during the war.

Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT4) will be in attendance to present the medal and accompanying lapel button to Francesconi.

The event is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at 37 Ridgeley St.
