Who Your Neighbors Are by the Numbers
Darien's adults, who make up a smaller proportion of the town population than in the county or the state in general, are very well paid and tend to be very well educated; the largest proportion of them work in finance, insurance and real estate.
Who are your Darien neighbors, as a whole? They tend to be well-educated people, many with school-age children, many with high incomes and either in finance or professional jobs.
But they've been increasingly unemployed in recent years, and the population of Darienites has grown by more than 10 percent over the past 10 years.
These U.S. Census statistics, taken from the most recent town bond report (for bonds issued March 15), either compare Darien to its own past or to the county and the state (and some tables make both kinds of comparisons).
