Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms, Hail Possible Tonight

Darien and the rest of the New York metropolitan area could be in for a rough day. The National Weather Service warns of storms this afternoon and especially later tonight:

"Some of the storms could be severe," the "Hazardous Weather Alert" for the metropolitan area warns. "The primary threats will be damaging winds and large hail."

The Darien-specific forecast warns of "likely" showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.: "Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning."

According to the forecasters, a slow-moving cold front will move through the area on Friday afternoon and early Saturday, which could more more “thunderstorms with very heavy rain and gusty winds.”
