Love Bites: Espresso NEAT

In the week leading up to Valentine's Day, we'll bring you seven simple sweets and treats for Valentine's Day; that's one love-bite for every day of the week.

I've always said that food plays a major role in just about everything we do. And while we've recovered from the holiday feasting, there's already another "holiday" upon us that just begs for more indulgences. Yes, my friends, it's Valentine's Day.

The National Restaurant Association claims restaurant business increases an average of 33 percent on Valentine's Day; and according to the Nielsen Company, national chocolate sales will total close to $345 million this week, second only to Halloween.

So for all of you romantics with an appetite for love, here are my top seven local picks to set the mood:

Love Bite #1

What's better than cozying up with your honey on a cold winter's day over a hot cup of coffee and a sweet treat?

Whether you are starting the day together, or taking a break from running errands, steal away to this neighborhood café for a warm soothing cappuccino, a mini cupcake and a heart-shaped cookie baked by Dough*Girl.

Rachel has mastered the art of a deliciously frothy cappuccino. Atop each piping hot mug of espresso, she crafts the shape of a heart using a precision pour of milk foam. It's a work of art, made with love. You just can't help but smile when you see it.

The cupcakes and cookies are equally pretty—and delicious. Rachel and Lori have have carefully sourced sweets from local bakers, so it's hard to make the "wrong choice," especially when it comes to baked goods by Dough*Girl, Laura Jayson of Rowayton, who uses only the freshest and best all-natural ingredients available locally.

A heart-topped cappuccino, a fresh-baked cookie and a cupcake: simply romantic.
