Poll: Obama's Ratings at Two Year High

The results show increased confidence in the president following the killing of Osama bin Laden by U.S. forces.

Asked if the killing of Osama bin Laden by U.S. forces had affected her view of President Barack Obama's job performance, selectman Jayme Stevenson (R) had a straightforward response.

"Unequivocally no," Stevenson said Wednesday.

"I think the efforts that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden have been in the works and in planning for a very long time, so I would never want to give credit or blame to any one particular person," she added. "I think it was a very collaborative effort over a very long period of time."

That stands in contrast to the results of an Associated Press-GfK poll released Wednesday, which shows Obama's approval rating at a two-year high of 60 percent in the wake of bin Laden's death.

Higher ratings from unaffiliated voters were largely responsible the uptick, the poll results showed. Support for Obama from this key voting bloc had diminished over the past two years.

The poll was conducted May 5-9 by GfK Roper Public Affairs and Corporate Communications. It involved landline and cellphone interviews with 1,001 adults nationwide and has margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.2 percent.

69 percent of respondents also said Obama would keep America safe in the poll, up from 61 percent in March.

Stevenson, however, attributed the benefits of last week's operation against bin Laden to U.S. security personnel generally.

"Not that I ever advocate celebrating death and murder, but I think in this case justice has been served, and I'm glad that the U.S. government and the military specifically had the fortitude to stick with that goal," Stevenson said.
