The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Darien and the rest of Fairfield County, in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The NWS "continues to place the Tri-State Area under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms."

"This threat is in response to a cold front expected to move through the region," the service reports.

Forecasters warn that afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely for Darien — mainly between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. — with a high of about 86°.

"Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds. ... Chance of precipitation is 60%," the service writes. "New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms."

The forecast also shows a slight chance of evening thunderstorms through 7 p.m., followed by gradual clearing.
