Darien Candidates Discuss & Debate Tuesday Night

A debate and question-and-answer session takes place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22 (tonight) for candidates in Darien's 2013 municipal elections.

Candidates for Darien tax collector (a contested office) and other offices in town government will meet at 7 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, for discussion and debate at a "Candidates Night" sponsored by the Darien League of Women Voters.

The event takes place in the Town Hall Auditorium, 2 Renshaw Rd.

This excerpt from a letter to the editor (from the organizers), published Oct. 10, describes the upcoming event:

"Campaign 2013 is upon us and the Darien League of Women Voters is pleased to host two upcoming events:

"Join us Tuesday, Oct. 22, for Candidates’ Night 2013, featuring discussion and debate among our municipal candidates for the offices of Tax Collector (which is contested this year), Board of Finance, Planning & Zoning, Board of Selectman, and First Selectman.  The evening kicks off with a reception at 7 p.m. in the Darien Town Hall Lobby; the program begins at 7:20 p.m. in the Town Hall Auditorium.

"Secondly, candidates for the Board of Education will participate in a discussion and debate set for Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Darien Library Community Room.  This is a contested race with four candidates, two Democrats and two Republicans, running for three positions on the Board.  The evening begins at 7 p.m. (no opening reception) and concludes at 8:15 p.m.

"During both events, voters will be able to submit written questions to the candidates either in person or online via our website. This is a great opportunity to meet the candidates and ask about the many issues facing our town.  Both events will be videotaped by Channel 79 and rebroadcast prior to Election Day November 12th.  Please visit our website lwv.darien.org for more information."
