Disabled? You Can Get an Absentee Ballot

A new election law passed in Connecticut in 2012 allows any eligible voter who is permanently, physically disabled to receive an absentee ballot automatically for each election, primary, or referendum held in the elector’s town.  If you are a voter with a permanent physical disability and wish to automatically receive an absentee ballot sent to your home:

• Fill out a request for an absentee ballot and submit it to the Darien Town Clerk. An absentee ballot request can be downloaded and printed from the Internet or is available in the Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall, 2 Renshaw Road, Darien CT 06820.
  

• Ask your physician or medical care provider to write a note on their letterhead, certifying that you are unable to appear in person at your polling place to vote because of your permanent physical disability. State law requires that your doctor’s certification containing your medical information remain private and confidential.

• Mail or deliver the medical care letter to the Town Clerk’s office as noted above. Please include your full name and address.
