2 Letters Support Mothers of 7 Children for Board of Ed

To the editor:

Now, more than ever, the Darien Board of Education needs strong leaders who will act as a powerful voice for students and their families. For this reason, we need Shannon Silsby and Callie Sullivan on the Board of Ed.

Shannon was selected by her peers to serve as co-chairman of the Royle School PTO as well as vice chair of the Council of Darien School Parents. A mother of four, she has worked tirelessly to enhance education for all students in the district.

Callie, a former Selectman and former member of the RTM Education Committee, champions transparency and accountability.  A mother of three with tremendous courage and an unbreakable spirit, Callie is precisely the kind of person I want fighting for my child’s education.

Every board needs members who will listen well, challenge groupthink, and offer alternatives to vexing problems. Silsby and Sullivan are the ones for the job.

To the editor:

Our Board of Education sets the tone for the entire district and Shannon Silsby and Callie Sullivan are the two best individuals equipped to help plan for the future. They possess financial acumen, an intimate knowledge of our schools and a vision.

Callie spent 12 years in town government on the Board of Selectmen and RTM and knows the budget cycle and the challenges of policy. As an educational publisher, she also understands the needs of instructors.

Shannon holds an MBA and manages multi-million dollar budgets for global brands. She is an award winning communicator. Her senior-level work on the PTO and CDSP qualifies her for the financial and strategic initiatives on the BoE.

Seven children between them have attended our schools. Their personal and professional experience will help the BoE get back on track. Vote for Silsby & Sullivan next Tuesday.
