The fifth annual JR Forever Memorial Walk will take place at Pear Tree Point Beach on Sunday, October 14.
Registration begins at 12:30, and the walk will kick off at 1:15pm - rain or shine.
The JR Forever Memorial Walk was started by friends and family of JR Schoen, a nine-year old boy who died in 2008 of a brain tumor.

The walk celebrates JR’s life and his love of so many aspects of the town of Darien by bringing community together and raising funds to support local organizations.
This fun family day has become an integral event in the Darien community, positively impacting organizations that benefit so many children in the area.

Among those who have received generous gifts from the walk over the past four years are Post 53, Playground By the Sound, Darien Little League, The Challenger Program of Darien Little League, Darien Youth Lacrosse, and the Den for Grieving Kids/Center for Hope.
Another organization that has received funds is a program within the JR Schoen Memorial Foundation called JR’s Ray of Hope. JR’s Ray of Hope provides assistance to local families with school-aged children who are experiencing serious illness, injury, or death of a family member.
The Schoen family was so touched by the generosity of their community throughout and after JR’s brave battle that JR’s Ray of Hope was formed to help other families in difficult times. In addition to confidential donations to families, JR’s Ray of Hope supports the entire community through purchases of medical equipment for the Darien Public Schools.
This year’s walk will continue to raise funds to support JR’s Ray of Hope, as well as supporting special programs at the Darien Library. The Walk is a wonderful way to make a difference and come together with the local community to support these deserving organizations.

Registration is $25 per person or $100 per family. Additional donations welcome.
Day of event registration is available, however, only first 250 registrants receive a commemorative t-shirt. Adult supervision is required for those children under 12 years old.
Food and drinks will be available.
