Women’s Business Development Council joins Eileen Fisher to support locally owned shops

The Women’s
Business Development Council (WBDC), based in Stamford, is joining Eileen
Fisher women’s apparel company in promoting its third Shop Local event,
Thursday, Sept. 26 to Saturday, Sept. 28.

Women throughout Connecticut who shop at
specialty stores selling Eileen Fisher’s Fall Collection those three days will
help the designer support the WBDC and similar organizations that help women
entrepreneurs succeed.

The promotion will take place in area
stores such as the Darien Sports Shop in Darien, Irresistibles in New Canaan,
and Idiom in New Haven. Fisher has pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds
from purchases of her Fall Collection to the Association of Women’s Business
Centers (AWBC), of which the WBDC is a member.

The AWBC is a national non-profit
organization that represents business owners across the U.S. through a network
of more than 100 women business centers.

Fran Pastore, CEO of the WBDC, said Shop
Local is an expression of Fisher’s gratitude
to the independent business owners who carry her collections.

“Specialty store buyers helped Eileen Fisher
get her start,” Pastore said. “They answered her questions about styles, colors,
and pricing. Her success shows how far a woman entrepreneur can take her
business when she has the advantage of mentors and support. That’s what the
WBDC strives to provide for women in Connecticut, as does the AWBC across the
country.”
