Get Your Christmas Tree to the Curb by These Dates

From Jan. 2 to Jan. 30, the Darien Public Works Department will be picking up used Christmas trees as long as they're decorating the curb on time -- and the times are a bit different for each area of town.

Here's the schedule (also shown in a screen shot grabbed from this PDF on the town government website):

Area North of RRTracks and West of Hollow Tree Ridge Rd including Hollow Tree Ridge Rd. (Area 1): Thursday, Jan. 2 and Friday, Jan. 3. Also: Jan. 16 to 17.

  • Area north of railroad tracks and east of Hollow Tree Ridge Road to and including Mansfield Avenue. (Area 2): Jan. 6 to 7; Jan. 21 to 22.
  • Area north of railroad tracks and east of Mansfield Avenue (Area 3): Jan. 8 to 9; Jan. 23 to 24.
  • Area south of the railroad tracks and north of and including the Post Road (Area 4): Jan. 10 to 13; Jan. 27 to 28.
  • Area south of the railroad tracks and south of the Post Road (Area 5): Jan. 14 to 15; Jan. 29 to 30.
The department news release also listed these important reminders:

  • Christmas trees must be at the curb by the first morning of the scheduled pick-up.
  • Christmas tree pickup is conducted on public streets only.
  • Residents are asked to refer to a Town map to determine their designated area for schedule.
  • The schedule has been rotated from last year.
  • Public Works does not have more specific times of pickup.
  • In the event of significant snow accumulation the program may be delayed, please be patient.
  • Once collection is complete, trucks will not return until the next scheduled pickup.
  • Christmas wreathes, brush, grass clippings, garbage or other materialswith not be collected.
  • Christmas Trees with bags, netting, stands,or lights will not be collected.
  • Residents with valid RDA stickers may still bring Christmas Trees to the dump.
  • Collection on weekdays only.
