Dr. Virgilio Zanin, 77, of Westport, MA died peacefully with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, Oc. 22, 2013 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Schmitt) Zanin.
Born in Rivamonte (Belluno) Italy, son of the late Fortunato and Laura (Angoletta) Zanin, he had lived in Westport, MA since 1970. Dr. Zanin was a Sociology professor at UMass, Dartmouth from 1971 until his retirement in 2008.
Including his wife, survivors include 2 sons: Michael W. Zanin and his wife Lori of Westport and Mark V. Zanin and his wife Donna of Darien, CT; a brother: Emilio G. Zanin of CA; 2 sisters: Marga Troy of Hartford, CT and Sr. Antonia Zanin of Italy; 8 grandchildren: Heather, Alyssa, Matteo, Alexander, Montana, Cooper, Trevor and Kyle; 2 great grandchildren: Nicholas and Leah; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 11 a.m.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass at the Potter Funeral Home.
