$2,800 in Cash Reported Stolen from Contractor's Locked Van

A hefty amount of money is reported stolen from inside a medical kit inside a bag inside a subcontractor's van.

A subcontractor working at a house at 46 Noroton Ave. told police on June 10 that somebody had gained access to the van, despite locked doors, and stolen $2,800 from inside a bag, police said.

Darien police gave this account of the incident, based on what the subcontractor said:

The subcontractor parked his 1995 Ford Econoline Van in the driveway of the house at about 9 a.m. on Monday, June 9. The money was in a medical kit which was inside a bag in the van. A window of the van was slightly open.

Several people had access to the vehicle, and the victim said he suspects a co-worker.

By 9:30 p.m. that day, the subcontractor noticed the money was missing. He reported the matter to police at 9:51 a.m. the next day.

Darien police detectives are looking into the matter.
