UPDATED Accident Sends Darien Cop to Hospital, Closes Post Road

A chase ends in an accident that closes the Post Road near Renshaw Road.

Police are investigating a two-car accident that closed part of the Post Road and sent Lt. Thomas Krois of the Darien Police Department to hospital with undetermined leg injuries on Tuesday afternoon.

Darien police say the accident was the result of a chase involving a yellow Nissan Xterra driven by 37-year-old Angel R. Vega of Stamford, and one of the department's own fully-marked Ford Expeditions.

According to Capt. Fred Komm, Darien police were notified of a pursuit by the Stamford Police Department of a yellow Nissan Xterra that had been involved in a road rage incident in Stamford just after 1:30 p.m.

Capt. Komm said Shift Commander Lt. Krois was traveling westbound on the Post Road near Renshaw Road when he saw the described SUV traveling in the opposite direction. As the two vehicles approached one another, a collision occurred, police said.

Post 53 transported Lt. Krois to Stamford Hospital with injuries to his right leg. Vega walked away from the vehicle unscathed. He was arrested for unspecified charges and is being held at Police Headquarters, police said.

The Accident Investigation Unit has been called to the scene.

Police say Post Road will remain closed in both directions near Renshaw Road for an undetermined amount of time.
