Another Theft From a Car Near Brookside Road

The rash of car burglaries and attempted burglaries from streets near Brookside Road continued early last week with one theft and one attempt on Tuesday and Wednesday.

One car burglary and another attempted car burglary took place last week on streets off of Brookside Road, part of that began the week before in the same area.

In the two most recent incidents, one car was unlocked and entered; another car was locked and never entered, although the owner saw someone trying to get into it.

"It appears that the burglary may have occurred in concert with the several motor vehicle burglaries that had been perpetrated in the area during the early morning hours of [Friday] June 1," Capt. Frederick W. Komm said Moday in a written statement.

  • Wednesday, Ridge Acres Road: A resident reported that $15 in quarters was stolen from the center console of an unlocked 2008 Mercedes E350 parked in a driveway. UPDATE 11:48 a.m.: The theft may well have occurred during the other break-ins on June 1-2. The owner checked her car after she became aware of the other burglaries through news reports.
  • Tuesday, Stephen Mather Road: The owner of a 2010 Mercedes GL450 told police that at about 1:52 a.m. she heard someone trying to get into the locked vehicle. From a window of her home she saw a dark figure leaving the car and walking across a yard. She turned on an outside light, but didn't see anything more. Nothing was stolen from the car.
