Some mischievous anti-elves worked to dampen the holiday spirit for a pair of Darien households last past week, authorities said Monday.
According to Darien police, the first larceny was reported Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 10:15 p.m. at a West Avenue home. The homeowner had received email notifications from UPS and FedEx that a number of packages had been delivered that day, but returned to find them missing, police said.
A Sony smartphone attachable camera lens bundle valued at $249, delivered by FedEx at 12:01 p.m., and two additional packages, containing a pair of men's dress shoes valued at $34 and items from York Photo valued at $45.95, were delivered by UPS at 2:05 p.m. The homeowner reported to authorities that he returned home at approximately 7:30 p.m. that evening and discovered they were missing.
On Friday, Dec. 21, a homeowner on Long Neck Point Road reported to police that two packages went missing sometime between Dec. 14 and Dec. 15 after they were reportedly delivered at 11:04 a.m. on the 14th. One package was a shipment from WalMart containing $132 worth of food and the second was a $41 tank top from Lululemon.
Police continue to investigate.
