Cops: She Was Intoxicated, Wearing Sunglasses & Running a Red Light at 1:25 AM

An intoxicated 44-year-old woman drove through a red light on the Post Road without slowing down, according to police.

A Darien police officer stopped a driver who drove through a red light on the Post Road at Brookside Road at 1:25 a.m. Sunday — and she was wearing dark sunglasses, the officer noted in the police report.

She was also intoxicated, said police who gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:

The woman, Holly Robinson, 44, of Davidson Street in Bridgeport, was traveling east (sometimes called "northbound," which is what the police report said) in a gray 2003 Lexus ES 300 on the Post Road when the officer spotted her.

Without slowing down, she traveled right through the red light. She later told the officer that she had been drinking at Darien Social.

The officer reported several indications that Robinson was intoxicated with alcohol:

  • She smelled of alcohol.
  • When she stepped out of the car to take field sobriety tests, she had trouble steadying herself and had to use the vehicle for support.
  • She didn't pass the field sobriety tests.
  • After she was arrested on a charge of driving while under the influence, breath tests showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.1251 at 2:08 a.m. and 0.1180 at 2:27 a.m.

She was also charged with failure to obey a traffic control signal. Robinson later posted a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear July 3 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
