Darien Man Arrested on 2004 Sexual Assault Charges

Police say Joshua Green, now 25, fled to Florida and engaged in sexual relations with a 14-year-old Darien girl.

Joshua Green, 25, of Catherine Street in Darien was arrested Friday on charges of second degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor stemming from a 2004 episode.

According to Darien Police, Green—then 19—fled to Florida in February of 2004 with a 14-year-old Darien resident whom he was dating at the time. When Green was arrested in Miami Shores three days later, the pair acknowledged to investigators that they had engaged in consensual—but statutorily illegal—sexual relations.

On Feb. 9 of that year, the department received a report that the teen was missing and that she had left a note to say she was running away "because of stress." The girl had previously been told she was not allowed to engage in a relationship with Green, police said.

As investigators soon learned, Green had borrowed his sister's 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier, telling her he would only need it briefly. Instead, he had left the state with the 14-year-old intending to travel to Florida and Canada, according to police.

Around 2 a.m. on Feb. 12, Green and the girl were found sleeping in the car in a gas station parking lot by Miami Shores Police. Green was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, while the girl was returned to the custody of her parents.

Owing to the difficulty of extraditing Green from Florida—and due to a stint in prison stemming from the Miami Shores charge—he remained in the state until recently, when police received word that he had returned to Connecticut. Green was notified of the charges against him and turned himself into police. He posted $50,000 bond and is set to appear in court July 19.

Second degree sexual assault against a victim under sixteen is considered a class B felony in Connecticut, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $15,000 fine.

Risk of injury to a child under sixteen is also considered a class B felony when certain types of intimate contact are involved. Absent that, it is listed as a class C felony, punishable by up to 10 years and a $10,000 fine.
