Darien Man Charged with DUI

Darien police arrested a local resident Sunday on a charge of driving while under the influence.

Police gave this account (which is an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:

At about 2:03 a.m. Sunday, a police officer spotted a 2013 BMW in a parking lot at 353 Post Rd. The engine was running.

On approaching the car, the officer found Greg Twardy, 44, of Herman Avenue asleep. When Twardy was awoken, the officer smelled alcohol on him, and Twardy's speech was slurred. He was given field sobriety tests, which he failed.

Twardy said he had been drinking at Ernie's bar on Tokeneke Road, downtown.

He was released on $250 bond and was scheduled to appear July 24 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
