Darien Man Turns Himself into Police on DWI Warrant

The man allegedly caused an accident after crossing over the center line while driving drunk.

A Darien man wanted in connection to a motor vehicle accident that occurred while he was allegedly drunk turned himself into authorities, according to Darien police.

Authorities said Robert Kinnie, 44, of 9 Glendale Ave., discovered he'd been charged with DWI and failure to drive right in connection to a Dec. 1, 2012, accident on Hoyt St. in the area of Barringer Rd.

According to police, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Kinnie was traveling in a 2012 Land Rover southbound on Hoyt St. when he allegedly crossed the center line of the roadway and struck a 2001 GMC SUV traveling in the opposite direction.

Kinnie incurred a minor injury in the accident and was transported to Stamford Hospital by EMS. Medical records obtained through a search warrant allegedly showed Kinnie's blood alcohol level to be over the legal limit.

Kinnie turned himself into authorities on Jan. 10 after being advised of a warrant issued for his arrest. He posted a bond of $250 after being issued a court date for Jan. 21.
