Darien police arrested a 22-year-old man Sunday on Hoyt Street, charging him with driving while under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license.

Darien police stopped a 22-year-old man as he drove on Hoyt Street at 12:35 a.m. Sunday and charged him with driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Police gave this account of the incident and arrest:

A 2004 Honda Accord driven by Jose Ramos, 32, of Stamford, was seen driving east on Camp Avenue. The car, without the driver signaling, then turned left onto Hoyt Street and went north.

Then it drove over the center line several times before police stopped it near the intersection of Hoyt Street and Woodway Road. Police gave Ramos field sobriety tests, which he failed, and he was arrested.

Ramos, of 1286 Long Ridge Rd., Stamford, failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, operating with a suspended license, failure to return a suspended license, making an improper turn and failure to drive right. He was released on a $250 bond and is to appear Oct. 31 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
