Fire Log: Fence Aflame Outside Springdale Florist

Firefighters also responded to two brush fires and a smoke scare at the Darien Sport Shop.

Tuesday, Aug. 3

FIRE ALARM ACTIVATION: A fire alarm brought the Darien Fire Department to the old Darien Library (35 Leroy Avenue) around 12:44 a.m., but the cause was found to be a malfunction.

Wednesday, Aug. 4

MVA/FUEL LEAK: The Noroton Heights Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident/fuel leak outside of 465 Hoyt Street around 4:15 p.m.

SMOKE SCARE: Around 5:30 p.m., the Darien Fire Department responded to a smoke scare at the Darien Sport Shop (1127 Post Road). The smoke was traced to a malfunctioning transformer in the building's electrical room.

Friday, Aug. 6

STRUCTURE FIRE: A section of fence and a flower pot caught on fire outside of Springdale Florist (28 Camp Avenue) around 1:15 p.m. Firefighters from the Darien Fire Department, the Noroton Fire Department, and the Noroton Heights Fire Department were called to the scene. The cause was determined to be a "carelessly discarded cigarette," according to Fire Marshal Bob Buch.

BRUSH FIRE: A brush fire brought the Noroton Fire Department to 1500 Post Road around 5:31 p.m. The cause was unknown but was probably "carelessly discarded cigarette" as well, Buch said.

BRUSH FIRE: The Darien Fire Department responded to a brush fire on the tracks of the Darien Train Station around 6:13 p.m. The exact cause was unknown, but Buch said sparks from passing train wheels or a cigarette may have been to blame.
