Fire Log: High Winds Topple Power Lines
Units also respond to an attic fire and a dramatic collision with a police cruiser.
The following information was provided by the Office of the Fire Marshal and the Darien Police Department:
Monday, April 26
I-95 CRASH: At 6:38 p.m., the Darien Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident/injury on Interstate 95 near Exit 11.

Tuesday, April 27
POLICE CRUISER SMASHED: Angel Vega, 37, of Stamford allegedly rammed his Nissan Xterra into a Darien police cruiser at 1:36 p.m. after fleeing Stamford police. The incident, which occurred on Post Road near Quaker Lane, sent Krois to the hospital and brought numerous charges against Vega, including second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Noroton and Darien fire departments both responded to the scene.

I-95 CRASH: Noroton Heights Fire responded to a motor vehicle accident/injury on Interstate 95 near Exit 10 at 5:39 p.m.
Wednesday, April 28
ATTIC FIRE: At 4:18 a.m., the Darien Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in the Attic of a home at 12 Harriet Lane East. There were no injuries, but fire officials said the blaze—attributed to a lighting fixture in a second story closet—caused considerable damage to the newly renovated attic.

OLD KINGS CRASH: At 8:19 p.m., the Darien Fire department responded to a motor vehicle accident at 25 Old Kings Highway North.
MINOR COLLISION: At 10:20 p.m., the Darien Fire Department was called to the scene of a collision on Mansfield Avenue at Stephen Mather Road. According to a police report, the driver of a 2004 Toyota, identified as Enzo Russo, 84, of Scofieldtown Road in Stamford, made a wide right turn from Stephen Mather, causing him to veer into the wrong lane and strike a 2001 BMW headed south on Mansfield. While no major injuries were reported in the low-speed crash, the BMW was towed due to a fluid leak, and Russo was charged with making an improper right turn.
Thursday, April 29
POWER LINES DOWN: At 4:28 p.m., Noroton Heights Fire arrived at the scene of downed power lines at Hoyt Street and Middlesex Road. Fire officials attributed the hazard to heavy winds.
MORE POWER LINES DOWN: The Noroton Fire Department responded to a second report of downed power lines—this one on Plymouth Road—at 5:04 p.m., also caused by heavy winds.
BURNING TREE: A third set of downed power lines caused a tree to catch on fire on Pilgrim Road around 7:18 p.m. The Darien and Noroton fire departments extinguished the storm-related blaze, which officials described as minor.
BERTUCCI'S BLAZE: At 7:32 p.m., a fire alarm was activated at Bertucci's Brick Oven Restaurant on Post Road. The Darien Fire Department handled call, which turned out to have been caused by a fire in an electrical panel.
WIRES ON FIRE A final set of downed power lines caught on fire on Old Oak Road around 10:34 p.m. Norton Heights responded to the incident, also attributed to heavy winds.
Friday, April 30
I-95 CRASH: At 2:13 p.m., the Darien Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident/injury on Interstate 95 near Exit 10.
Saturday, May 1
I-95 CRASH: At 4:43 p.m., the Noroton Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident/injury at 60 Long Neck Point Road.
