Fire Log: Smoke Scare Forces Evacuation of Cottage

During the week of Feb. 15, Darien fire officials respond to three false alarms, an MVA, a pedestrian fall accident, and a malfunctioning oil burner.

The following information was provided by Fire Marshal Bob Buch:

Monday, Feb. 15

MVA/INJURY: Volunteers from Darien Fire responded to a two-car accident at the intersection of Mansfield Ave. and Royle Road just before 11:30 a.m. Buch said injuries were minor; Post 53 assisted.

PEDESTRIAN: What was initially reported as an MVA vs. Pedestrian incident at the intersection of Ledge road and Noroton Ave., turned out to be a Sidewalk vs. Pedestrian incident on Hollow Tree Ridge Road. Buch said a person had slipped and fallen in the vicinity of Middlesex Middle School; volunteers from the Noroton Heights Fire Department called upon Post 53 to assist.

Wednesday, Feb. 17

SMOKE SCARE: Reports of a smoke scare, the result of a malfunctioning oil burner, brought the Noroton Heights Fire Department to the Cottage, a residential board and care facility located in what used to be the lower parking lot at the Senior Center on Edgerton Street. Buch said residents were evacuated due to the smoky condition. Fire officials shut down the burner and ventilated the home. No one was hurt as a result of the incident. The smoke did not damage the property.
