Half a dozen false alarms, two culinary catastrophes and two major car accidents kept the Darien Fire Department particularly busy last week.
Tuesday, Jan. 19
MVA/INJURY: Tuesday afternoon, all three volunteer fire departments responded to a fatal car accident near Exit 12 on the I95. The accident occurred just after 2:30 p.m. Darien's fire department secured the scene while State Troopers investigated and put down speedi-dri to clean up fluids, officials say.
Wednesday, Jan. 20
FIRE ALARM ACTIVATION: A resident on Oak Crest awoke to a louder-than-normal alarm at 4:45 a.m., when the fire alarm malfunctioned. All three fire departments responded and left the homeowner with a $100 fine.
FIRE ALARM ACTIVATION: A second false fire alarm brought all three volunteer fire departments to the doorstep of a home on Glen Gorham Lane. The resident had canceled the alarm and was not fined.
Thursday, Jan. 21
FIRE ALARM ACTIVATION: Shake, fries and a fire alarm greeted the dinner crowd at Darien Diner. The Darien Fire Department arrived at the eatery on the Post Road at about 7:30 p.m. The malfunctioning alarm resulted in a $100 fine.
Friday, Jan. 22
FIRE ALARM ACTIVATION x2: At 5:30 p.m., Darien Fire dealt with a malfunctioning fire alarm on Birch Road, and left the homeowner with a $100 fine. But they weren't gone for long. The fire alarm malfunctioned again at about 9:15 p.m. Darien responded; another $100 fine.
SMOKE SCARE: Darien Fire helped out a resident on Old Kings Highway South who reported a smoke scare at about 6:45 p.m., when a down draft sent smoke from a wood-burning stove back down the chimney and into the home.
MVA/INJURY: A two-car accident downtown on the Post Road near the I95 North Exit 11 off-ramp occurred at about 7:35 p.m. Darien Fire put down speedi-dri for fluids and assisted Post 53.
Sunday, Jan. 24
C.O. DETECTOR ACTIVATION: At 5:52 p.m., Noroton Heights responded to a carbon monoxide alarm activation just down the road from the firehouse on Noroton Ave. No readings were found.
SMOKE SCARE: Burnt butter spilled in the oven of a home on Brushy Hill, activating the smoke alarm. Darien responded to the smokey spill at about 6:30 p.m.
