Tuesday, Oct. 27

GPS stolen from unlocked vehicle.

A motor vehicle burglary was reported from a residence on Walmsley Road. The vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Sequoia, was left unlocked in the driveway. Taken was a Garmin GPS, valued at $300. The owner of the vehicle checked his vehicle after he received an e-mail from a neighbor who had reported a motor vehicle burglary on Oct. 20. It is unknown which day the item was taken.

Wednesday, Oct. 28

Teenager crashes into utility pole; charged with DWI.

James Brown III, 19, of Darien, was charged with DWI and traveling too fast for conditions around 10:29 p.m. The charges stemmed from a one car accident on Raymond Street. Brown was driving a 2007 Toyota Tacoma in the area of Littlebrook Road, when the car hydroplaned and spun out of control. The vehicle struck large stones off a stone wall and came to rest against a utility pole. When police arrived at the scene, they noticed the odor of alcohol on Brown. Brown failed a field sobriety test, according to police reports. There were two additional passengers in the car; no one was injured. Brown posted $250 bond and has a court date of Nov. 9.

Thursday, Oct. 29

Police find crowbar pry marks on rear door of Grieb's Pharmacy.

An attempted burglary occurred at Grieb’s Pharmacy, 1021 Post Road, around 8:30 p.m. A witness reported he saw a male breaking the front window of the pharmacy. The suspect is described as a white male in his twenties or thirties with scruffy blonde hair. He was wearing a hooded blue or gray sweatshirt with blue jeans. The witness began to approach the individual, who appeared to be carrying a partially concealed crowbar in his hand. Fresh pry marks were found on the rear door of the store and the lower left corner of the window pane was broken. Police canvassed the area but did not locate the suspect. No entry was gained into the store.

Saturday, Oct. 31

Man found hunched over in driver's seat; charged with DWI.

Stephen Hansen, 50, of Darien was charged with DWI around 11:50 p.m. Police received a call from a witness who said he was driving erratically, crossing the center lane several times. He was driving a 2004 Audi A4 on Middlesex Road. Police found Hansen pulled over to the side of the road, hunched over the driver’s seat, according to reports. He posted $260 bond and has a court date of Nov. 10.

Mailbox vandalism on Leroy and Hillside.

Vandalism to mailboxes was reported, one on Leroy Avenue and two on Hillside Avenue. The damage estimate was unknown. Police said there were more mailboxes vandalized that were likely not reported.
