Major MVA Closes Middlesex and Colony

A major motor vehicle accident closed Middlesex Road from 2 - 7 a.m., Saturday.

The Darien Police Department responded to the report of a major motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Middlesex Road and Colony Road, shortly after 2 a..m, Saturday morning.

A 19-year-old Darien man driving a 2001 GMC Yukon was traveling west on Middlesex Road, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole at the intersection of Colony Road. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and the driver was seriously injured. 

Darien Police temporarily closed traffic on Middlesex Road, due to the nature and severity of the incident.

The Darien Police Accident Investigation Unit, the Noroton Heights Fire Department and Darien EMS were called to the scene. Sergeant Jeremiah Marron of Darien Police said it took over an hour to extricate the driver because the vehicle was so badly mangled. The driver was immediately transported to Stamford Hospital. He is listed in stable condition. 

At around 7 a.m. Saturday morning, the accident scene had been cleared and Middlesex Road was re-opened. Police notified Darien residents of the road closure and re-opening via Nixle.
