One Wallet Stolen in Darien, Two Found

A Stamford woman parked at the Darien Ice Rink had her purse stolen, and when it was found again, it had inside a wallet of a Ridgefield woman whose car was burglarized in Wilton.

A Stamford woman at the Darien Ice Rink for 90 minutes came out to find a window of her minivan smashed and her purse taken.

Two days later, the purse was found blocks away, but inside it was another wallet which had been stolen in Wilton.

Darien police gave this account of the matter:

At 2:36 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Stamford woman reported the theft to police. She had been parked in the parking lot of Darien Ice Rink, 55 Old Kings Hwy. N. The driver's side window of her Toyota Sienna minivan had been shattered. A tan, leather Roots purse, valued at $250, which had been left on the floor in front of the console was missing.

The purse contained a Clarks wallet, which only had $20 in it, but also credit cards and personal identification information. Also in the purse was an iPad Mini valued at $400.

Two days later, on Thursday, Dec. 12, the manager at Duchess Restaurant, 306 Post Rd., reported to police that a purse had been found in the parking lot. The identification documents in the purse were still in it, but there was no money in it, and the iPad was missing.

Also found in the purse was a blue, leather wallet -- which did not belong to the Stamford woman.

Instead, that wallet had identification information for a resident of Ridgefield. That woman had lost her purse in a car burglary in Wilton discovered at about noon on Tuesday, Dec. 10 (the same day as the Darien burglary).

In the Wilton case, a woman had parked her vehicle at the Four Seasons Racquet Club at 589 Danbury Rd., Wilton. The car window in that burglary was also smashed. The victim believed only $20 in cash had been taken and all of the other items were still in the wallet.
