Police Blotter: Generator Swiped Post Storm

Police make a number of arrests during the week of March 22.

The following information was provided by Capt. Fred Komm of the Darien Police Department.

Wednesday, March 24

DRUG POSSESSION: Police say a license plate reader, a high-tech tool that scans and recognizes suspect cars, was instrumental in the arrest of 52-year-old Michael Thomasson of Norwalk.

Thomasson was stopped on Hope Street near the Stamford border when the LPR alerted Darien police that the vehicle was unregistered. Nine bags of marijuana later, Thomasson was placed under arrest. He has a court date of April 8 where he faces charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, failure to return suspended license and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

LARCENY: If a generator wasn't once a hot commodity, perhaps the events of the mid-March storm made it so. Police say a $625.00 Husky generator was stolen from the Wee Burn Condominium Association at 446 Hollow Tree Ridge. The owner had purchased the generator on behalf of the association and kept it outside the garages. He told police he last saw the generator on March 24 at 5 p.m. and noticed it missing at 10 a.m. the following morning.

Saturday, March 27

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: A Norwalk man was placed under arrest and held in lieu of $50,000 bond, after violating a protective order filed by his ex-wife, a Darien woman.

Police say the 37-year-old man called his ex wife on Wednesday morning, thereby violating the order. His ex wife immediately hung up the phone after hearing his voice, and called the police. Police obtained an arrest warrant. The man was arrested in Stamford on Saturday afternoon, at the conclusion of his AA meeting.

Bond was set at $50,000, which he did not post. Police say the man went to court Monday, March 29.

Sunday, March 28

DWI: Police say Norman Zavala, 29, of Stamford, had numerous cases of open Heineken and Budweiser beer bottles on the passenger seat, when they pulled him over on the I95 Exit 13 entrance ramp.

Zavala was sitting in his 1996 Mazda pick-up truck at Duchess restaurant, when police approached. He didn't have any lights on, and the fast-food joint was closed. That's when police say Zavala sped off, lights still off, towards the I95. He was stopped, and failed his field sobriety test after police detected a strong odor of alcohol and noticed lots of open beer bottles. Zavala was arrested on charges of DWI, failure to have headlights, and driving without a license. Zavala posted $250 bond and went to court Monday, March 29.

DWI: Police say 20-year-old Breland Sentio of Newington was driving in two lanes up the Post Road at a sluggish 20 mph when he was stopped near Richmond Drive. Sentio was "confused and disoriented," and had glassy, bloodshot eyes, police say. He failed his field sobriety test, posted $250 bond and has a court date of April 7 where he faces charges of DWI and failure to drive in proper lane.
