MOTOR VEHICLE BURGLARY: Darien police are searching for a suspect they believe burglarized three motor vehicles at two residences on Catherine Street in the wee morning hours.

Police received a report at 2:15 a.m. from a West Ave. resident who, attention focused by the flickering interior car lights, watched a "suspicious person," dressed in a dark puffer coat and carrying a backpack, wandering around Catherine Street driveways, opening and closing car doors. The complainant said the suspect "might be black."

At a first residence, $100 in cash was stolen from the ashtray of an unlocked, 1988 Ford Taurus.

In a second incident, police say both resident's cars, a 2003 Ford Explorer and 2003 Ford Escape, had been left unlocked and in the driveway. Swiped from the Fords were two GPS units valued at $150 a piece, a $900 ThinkPad notebook and a handbag that police say contained "nothing of value."

Mclellen, who did not have insurance, proceeded to tell police that he had recently purchased the unregistered vehicle. Police say the Honda had been stolen from Stamford on Feb. 14. About 1 gram of marijuana was found in Mclellen's wallet, along with $350 in Euros and $65 in Canadian currency.
