Police: Darien Teen Buying Drugs Regularly on a Local Street

A car regularly came by a Darien street, often several times a week, to sell marijuana to a teenager, Darien police said.

A Darien teen was regularly buying drugs from some Stamford residents who would arrange to drive by, pick him up, drive a very short distance, then let him get out of the car a short distance away, Darien police said.

A tipster told police the teenager was getting the very short rides sometimes several times a week, so police watched and saw the pattern for themselves, police said.

Darien police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the case:

On Tuesday and Wednesday, June 24 and 25, police watched and waited at the area of Charles Street, off of West Avenue, where the boy would stand waiting for the car.

They saw the same thing that the tipster reported, and the same vehicle with the same license plate that the tipster reported.

On Wednesday, they stopped the vehicle, a gray sedan driven by a 17-year-old Stamford teenager, with another Stamford teenager, 16, as passenger.  At the same time, they stopped the Darien teenager, 16, who was on foot at the time.

In the vehicle they found 1.4 grams of marijuana. The parents of the Stamford driver later turned in 12 grams of marijuana they found in their home.

The 17-year-old driver was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. The 16-year-old passenger was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell. The 16-year-old from Darien was charged with criminal attempt at possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Parents of all three teenagers were notified and came to Darien Police Headquarters to retrieve their children.
