Police: Violent Man Removed from Train at Darien Station

Local police were called to the Darien Metro-North Railroad Station late Wednesday afternoon to help remove a man who was reportedly attacking fellow passengers.

Sgt. Jeremiah Marron Jr., a spokesman for the Darien Police Department, gave this account of the matter:

Police were called at about 4:48 p.m. to assist Metropolitan Transit Authority officials in removing the man from the train.

Darien police arrived first and were directed to one of the first cars in the train, where the man was in the bathroom. Other passengers were directed to leave that train car.

When the man met police, he was belligerent and immediately began fighting with officers, who were not hurt in the scuffle. The man was tased and then turned over to the custody of MTA police.

An ambulance from Darien EMS-Post 53 then took the man to Stamford Hospital.

Marron referred all other questions to Metropolitan Transportation Authority police. An MTA police official at the Darien station said his agency would likely have more information on the matter on Thursday.
