Inside the garage, police immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana and soon discovered the sources—a 10-inch glass bong in the center of a table with chairs placed around it. They also found 15 marijuana cigarettes.

An officer checking the property saw a teenager entering a Ford Explorer parked on Inwood Road. The SUV was stopped, and officers questioned the driver, John Connery, 18, of Bittersweet Lane.

Connery admitted that he was in the garage but refused to identify any of his companions. Police issued him a misdemeanor summons for third-degree criminal trespass and possession of less than ½ ounce of marijuana. He was released to the custody of his father and is to appear on June 25 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Correction: Darien police said the "family was away," not that they were away on vacation.
