Puppy Plays Role in Theft of Beetle

The vehicle was reported stolen on Wednesday by a Darien resident.

A Volkswagen Beetle was stolen out of a Chestnut Street driveway last week, and police say a puppy may be partly to blame.

The black 2010 model was reported missing by its owner Wednesday morning. The Darien resident told police she had parked it in the driveway of her home the night before.

The puppy's role? The woman said she had been distracted by the dog as she carried it inside from the car on Tuesday and that she "may have left the keys in the unlocked vehicle" as a result, according to Capt. Fred Komm.
