Thief Ignores GPS, Goes for Cash in the Mercedes

A total of $350 in cash left in an envelope in a car was taken overnight last weekend, with no signs of forced entry into the vehicle, although the owner said she locked the car overnight.

A total of $350 in cash kept in a thank-you card was found stolen Sunday morning from a 2005 Mercedes parked outside a Linden Avenue home.

Darien police were told that the owner parked her car at the house at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. At 9 a.m. Sunday, she found the driver's side door was slightly open and the envelope with the money in it was missing.

She was also missing an animal-print wallet (which was empty), valued at $50.

There were no signs of forced entry into the car, but the victim said the car had been locked. A GPS device was left behind.
