Three DUI Arrests in Darien

These three people recently were charged with driving under the influence in Darien.

Capt. Frederick W. Komm, a spokesman for the department, released the following accounts of recent arrests on charges of driving under the influence:

Tokeneke Road

A Norwalk man was arrested on a charge of driving while under the influence after he drove as fast as 49 mph in a 35-mph zone on Tokeneke Road, police said. The incident occurred just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

When the car was stopped just over the Rowayton/Darien town line, a police officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol from the vehicle.

After the Norwalk man failed a field sobriety test, police charged him with with driving while under the influence and traveling too fast for road conditions.

The man was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear April 4 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Exit 13 and Post Road

Michael Bruno, 26, of Norwalk, was arrested at 1:30 a.m. Saturday after a police officer saw the 2006 Saab 93 he was driving exit Interstate 95 at the southbound Exit 13. The officer also saw that the vehicle failied to come to a halt at the stop sign at the end of the ramp.

The officer followed Bruno west on the Post Road and saw the driver cross the center line. Bruno was stopped near the corner of Post Road and Birch Road, and the officer who approached the vehicle smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from it.

Bruno failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on a charge of driving while under the influence, failure to obey a stop sign and failure to drive right.

Old Kings Highway South and Post Road

A police officer in a patrol car became suspicious when he saw a 2004 BMW X5 parked in the center of the roadway at Old Kings Highway South on Saturday, March 17 at 11 p.m., so he drove closer to the vehicle.

As the officer came closer, the BMW suddenly sped up. It crossed over the center line several times and nearly struck a telephone pole on the right shoulder of the roadway.

The vehicle was stopped on the Post Road, not far from the entrance to Interstate 95 at Exit 11.

The driver—Ravi Anand, 42, of 28 Greenfield Rd., Stamford—failed a field sobriety test and was charged with driving while under the influence and failure to drive right. He was released on a $250 bond and was scheduled to appear this Friday in state Superior Court in Stamford.
