When police give the brush off on something like this, it is usually because it was an off duty officier, or a fireman or some other FOP. This will not appear in the police blotter and they will try to bury it. As an editor, file an FOI request.

October 1987 (25 years ago)- A teenager with a car took down the entire guard rail and landed on the other side of Stony Brook with the back half of the car in the water. No police or emergency services were needed. The driver returned 10 minutes later with a friend who had a light blue Scout. With a length of chain he was on his way leaving a trail of fuel from the punctured gas tank. The good old days... when Darien was not so gentrified. I think if you lose your car in the river you should have the opportunity to get it out yourself or with the help of your friends.

So, who was the driver? Is he/she ok?

Wrong Max......They helped me in a situation like this....ice on the road(Hanson rd)...much respect and thanks for them....

@jonathan, I do not understand your comment. If you mean the police helped you, I certainly hope that they did. that is what they are paid to do. What does that heve to do with hiding details as a favor? The police stall and delay details whenever they choose to and "newspapers" forget to follow up. Happens all the time. I have seen them taking fire dept gear out of the back of a recked car and the accident never makes the blotter, the details are left out,

move on, you will never get the details. If they do not release the details at the time, it is for their own reason and they never will. Yeah, right, go ahead prove me wrong.

Lisa, He is OK. It's only a Chevy... Government Motors... No loss. He might jump off that bridge if it was a Ford. Max, Your point is you want the see the driver's name here. I won't post his name. If you find out you should not either.

I wont say who, but you might remember another accident around that year where someone driving south on hollow tree drove straight through a turn (the sharp right hand turn before you then turn to the left and pass mclaren) (no guardrail then, as there is now) and drove straight into a sand bunker. He walked away and walked hom to his hom on hansen and was called the next morning by weeburn staff to come take his car out of the bunker, no charges were ever filed.

If no crime was committed why should his name be published? If he was transported to a hospital the police will get a warrant for the blood work. If it is indicative of intoxication when they arrest him for DWI and then you will get his name.
