Two Mailboxes Vandalized on Maple Street

Two mailboxes on Maple Street, near its intersection with Relihan Road were vandalized sometime before 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, according to Darien Police.

A resident of Pleasant Street (a street a few blocks away) called police to report that at 1:20 a.m. each mailbox was seen pulled out from its post mountings and lying on the driveway at its address.

Only the two mailboxes were seen vandalized in that way.

Those mailboxes would have been "lying," not "laying" on the driveway. Lay is a transitive verb. One would hope than an "editor" would know that.

Thank you for pointing it out, Dexter. I notice your screen name is new -- welcome to Patch! Please tell me, which do you think is the worse offense: Getting confused on a common mistake in diction or correcting it in a rude way?

Normally I disagree with David, however, I stand with him in this instance. Dave Dexter, please take your pompous trolling elsewhere -- it is not appreciated or respected on this site.
