Wallet, Valued at $625, Stolen Downtown — Perhaps Left on Counter

A bit of distraction, perhaps, and no more wallet.

A 73-year-old woman, visiting from North Carolina, lost her $625 Louis Vitton wallet in downtown Darien, perhaps when she put it on a counter at Williams & Co. after a spa treatment.

She was at the business, located at 1020 Post Rd., until about 11:45 a.m., when she paid for her treatment.

She recalled putting a credit card back in the wallet. Then something on the counter grabbed her attention, and she may have been distracted enough to forget to take the wallet with her, she told police.

She then went to other stores downtown and when she again wanted to pay for something she noticed her wallet was gone.

The brown leather wallet contained about $150 in cash, along with credit cards and her drivers license. No one reported finding it at either Williams & Co. or any of the stores she visited.
