Democrat Carlo Leone defeated Republican Bob Kolenberg Tuesday.

At the latest count, Democrat Carlo Leone had received 4,517 votes (54.6 percent) to Republican Bob Kolenberg's 3,725 (45.1 percent). Green Party candidate Rolf Maurer received less than 1 percent, with a total of 25 votes.

Democrat Carlo Leone has defeated Republican Bob Kolenberg for the 27th district State Senate Seat. As of 10:04 p.m., Leone led by an unofficial total of 4,189 votes (55.8 percent) to Kolenberg's 3,315 (44.2 percent).

With 13 Stamford districts and all of Darien reporting, Leone has 3,593 votes to Kolenberg's 2,895.

With 9 of Stamford's districts reporting, the tally in the city is 2,194 votes (59.6%) for Democrat Carlo Leone, 1,490 (40.4%) for Bob Kolenberg.

Update, 8:16 p.m.:

Unofficial results from the Darien registrar show Republican Bob Kolenberg carrying the town over Democrat Carlo Leone, 480 votes to 223. Final turnout in the town was 17 percent, including absentees.

Stamford has yet to report its tallies.

Update, 8 p.m.:

The polls are now closed in Stamford and Darien. Patch will post updates and add vote tallies to the table below as results become available.

Republican Bob Kolenberg will watch the returns from , while Democrat Carlo Leone will be at Stamford Democratic Headquarters (123 High Ridge Rd. in Stamford).

Update, 7:29 p.m.: 

According to the final pre-closing figures, 6,893 people, or 15 percent of registered voters, had cast a ballot in the 27th district by 7 p.m.

In Stamford, the total was 6,373 voters, or 15.2 percent of those registered.

In Darien, the tally was 520 voters, or 12.5 percent of registered voters.

Those totals exclude 140 absentee ballots from Darien and roughly 700 from Stamford.

The polls close in half an hour.

Update, 5:30 p.m.: 

As of 5 p.m., 5,523 people, or 12 percent of eligible voters, had cast ballots in the special election for the 27th State Senate district.

In Stamford alone, 5,088 people, or 12.2 percent, had turned out to the polls. That rate is still slightly higher than in Darien, where 435 voters, or 10.5 percent, had cast their ballots.

Factoring the 140 absentee ballots received by the Darien registrars, overall turnout in town is at 13.9 percent. As of 5:30 p.m., Stamford's registrars were still in the process of tallying absentee votes.

Polls close in two and half hours.

Update, 3:27 p.m.:

Turnout remains relatively low at the polls in Darien and Stamford, with 4,426 people — or 9.6 percent of registered voters — having cast ballots in both municipalities by 3 p.m.

The rate was marginally higher in Stamford, where 4,055 people out of a possible 41,794 had voted, good for 9.7 percent turnout.

In Darien, 371 residents had been to the polls, or 8.9 percent of the town's registered voters represented by the 27th district.

"It's sort of a like a primary," Democratic registrar Tom Dunn told Patch. "You can almost bet, unless there's some extraordinary circumstance, that turnout will be low."

Dunn called it "doubtful" that turnout would top 20 percent in Darien.

Update, 2:03 p.m.:

Combined turnout in Stamford and Darien had reached about 7.2 percent by 1 p.m., according to the latest available figures.

The Stamford registrars' office reported that 3,042 people had voted in the city by that hour, or just over 7 percent of registered voters in the 27th district.

In Darien, turnout had hit 265 voters (126 from district II, 139 from district IV) by the same time Tuesday, roughly 6 percent turnout.

The polls close in just under six hours.

Update, 11:12 a.m.:

The Stamford registrars' office reports that about 1,670 people had cast ballots in the the 27th district as of 11 a.m., with updated counts still oustanding from two polling locations. That's about 4 percent of the 41,794 of the registered voters in Stamford's part of the district.

The Darien registrars' office, meanwhile, reports that 154 people — also about 4 percent of registered voters — had gone to the polls in town by 11 a.m.

Update, 9:40 a.m.:

According to Tom Dunn, Darien's Democratic Registrar of Voters, 75 people had cast ballots in town as of 9 a.m. That's just under 2 percent of the 4,150-odd registered voters in districts II and IV, which comprise the Darien portion of the 27th State Senate district.

Today is election day in parts of Stamford and Darien, as voters cast their ballots in the race for the 27th State Senate district.

Running for the seat are Republican , Democrat , and Green Party member .

The office was left vacant when Sen. Andrew McDonald  to join Governor Dannel Malloy's administration. Later in the month, Malloy  for today. 

The 27th district cover the southeastern portion of Stamford and districts II ( polling station) and IV ( polling station) of Darien. 

Sharp differences emerged between Kolenberg and Leone as they  at the Darien League of Women Voters Candidates' Night.
