As Darien schools tighten security, they've become less desirable as polling stations for elections, so town officials have begun to find new spots for town residents to vote, starting with Districts 1 and 5.
If you live in either of those districts (and to find out if you're in them, see below), you'll have a new place to vote for future primaries and general elections: For District 1, it will be the former Darien Library building at 35 Leroy Ave. For District 5, it will be the McGuane fieldhouse, behind the Noroton Heights Fire Department.
At Ox Ridge School, said John Visi, Republican registrar of voters, "Starting in September, voters would have had to wear special stickers [because to get to the polling station] you'd have to walk through the school."
But security wasn't the only reason for the changes, Visi said. Ox Ridge School, had ramps to the polling station at a lower level of the school, and walking back up those ramps after voting wasn't very appealing for seniors, he said.
Parking is another problem when elections are held and schools are still in session, Visi said. The town is looking for alternate sites for other polling places at schools, he said.

District 1 voters will vote at 35 Leroy Ave., the Board of Education headquarters and former Darien Library building.
District 1 voters are in the 25th state Senate district and the 141st state Assembly district.
