RTM Approves Town Budget

Update 9:34 p.m.:

The capital budget was approved and a mill rate of 13.17 was approved, both in apparently unanimous votes by the Representative Town Meeting.


Update 9:22 p.m.:

The RTM, apparently unanimously, has approved the education budget (the vote is still being tallied).

Update 9:08 p.m.:

The RTM overwhelmingly approved the town side of the budget.

Update 8:54 p.m.:

The Board of Finance proposed budget now before the Representative Town Meeting would raise taxes 3.86 percent.

That compares with 3.9 percent in the budget approved last year.

Update 8:43 p.m.:

The town is expected to get reimbursed for the tennis court project with a total of about $50,000 from its insurance company and from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, town officials said.

Update 8:34 p.m.:

In the Representative town Meeting's discussion about replacing Tennis courts at Weed Beach, town officials said part of the cost will be reimbursed to the town.

The RTM just approved the bond, with only a handful of members opposed.

Update 8:23 p.m.:

The RTM approved the Intervale Road drainage improvement project, which will be financed by a $1.5 million bond.

The Darien Representative Town Meeting is meeting tonight to vote on the town budget and some bond proposals.

A proposed $125.7 million 2013-2014 operating budget for the town, including the education budget, would set the mill rate at 13.17 ($13.17 in taxes per $1,000 of assessed value.
