Parents Council: TONIGHT Come to the School Budget Hearing

The Council of Darien School Parents urges everyone to attend the Feb. 5 Board of Education public hearing on the schools budget.

Editor's note: This letter is originally was published Jan. 28. The hearing is tonight.

Dear Editor:

On Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Auditorium, the Board of Education will hold its annual public hearing on the Superintendent’s Proposed 2013-2014 Budget for the Darien Public Schools.  On behalf of the Council of Darien School Parents (CDSP), we encourage all parents and community members to attend, become informed and make your views heard on the school budget.

The proposed budget for the 2013/2014 school year comes in below the five year projection, acknowledges the costs associated with educating a growing school population, adoption of the Common Core and other unfunded state and federal mandates, and the need to maintain safe and up-to-date classrooms and school facilities.

It reflects the costs associated with continuing the high-level of learner centered instruction, challenging curriculum and instructional support we currently offer our students.  There are no new initiatives.

Representatives of the CDSP will be speaking in support of the school budget and welcome your participation. Please join us on Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.

Sincerely,

Susan Vogel and Jennifer Montanaro
