Ceglarski leads Darien Girls Lacrosse Past Danbury

Senior captain scores four goals in 14-6 victory over Hatters

Senior captain Cali Ceglarski scored four goals—all in the second half—as the Darien girls lacrosse team posted a 14-6 victory over Danbury on Wednesday afternoon.

Ceglarski scored twice early in the second half and twice near the end of the game.

"Cali is All American," Darien head coach Lisa Lindley. "She is the strongest player we have and it's always expected that you'll see great things from her."

But Darien (8-1) didn't need any help from its best player in building a 7-1 halftime lead.

In the opening 24 minutes, the Blue Wave received two goals from senior Ann Fucigna and one each from  freshman Taylor Hardison, senior captain Liz Calby, senior Lanning McDonald, senior Corrine Sommi and junior Ellie Bullitt.

"This week we've been working on moving the ball and running through our plays the whole time," Ceglarski said. "We had a little trouble placing shots off of passes in the beginning, but we cleaned it up towards the end, which was awesome."

Danbury (5-3) came back harder in the second half, and was only outscored, 7-5. Freshman Raven Winters scored three times, showing some impressive footwork with a goal at 6:15 and another a mere 12 seconds later.

"[Winters] has never experienced lacrosse at this level so for her to get out there and fight like she did is really impressive," Danbury head coach Lauren Scott said. "She's got incredible speed and one she's got the ball, she's really hard to catch.

Along with the goals from Ceglarski, Sommi made some big plays in the second half,  adding a pair of scores and an assist on Calby's tally.

"We were a little better than we have been at doubling the ball down low," Lindley said. "But we have to continue working on defense and our transitions through the midfield."
