• Football: Darien looks to build on last week's unlikely 29-19 victory at Fairfield Warde when the Blue Wave visits winless St. Joseph on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Darien coach Rob Trifone said his young team, which has only three starters back from last year's FCIAC championship squad, "grew up" after rallying from a 16-point halftime deficit to defeat Fairfield Warde 29-19 last week. The Blue Wave trailed 19-3 at the intermission.

Running back Peter Gesualdi, one of those returning starters, had a pair of touchdown receptions from Henry Baldwin to help fuel the comeback.
St. Joseph (0-2) is the defending two-time Class S state champion, but the Cadets were hit harder by graduation losses than Darien, losing almost all of their potent offensive weapons.

Among those who graduated was quarterback Joe Della Vecchia, the son of the Cadets' coach, who holds the state record for career touchdown passes. The younger Della Vecchia also briefly held the state record for career yardage, although that mark was surpassed last week by Masuk's Casey Cochran, who is headed to UConn.
St. Joseph is coming off a 41-14 loss at Wilton after opening the season with a 21-7 defeat to Staples.
Last season, the Blue Wave needed a second-half rally to defeat St. Joseph 13-10 in Darien.
