Darien Softball Blanks Staples, 2-0

Blue Wave, off to the best start in school history, improve to 10-0

Jess DeMaio scattered five hits Friday as the Darien High School girls softball team continued the best start in the program's history with a 2-0 victory over Staples.

Kelly Fahey gave DeMaio all the offense she needed with a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning. The Blue Wave reached the midpoint of the season with a 10-0 record.

DeMaio did run into trouble in the fifth, when the Wreckers loaded the bases, but she escaped the jam with a strikeout. Staples (6-4) stranded seven runners on base.

Staples pitcher Jenny Johnson settled down after the first inning, allowing only four hits. Darien did not get a runner past second in its next five at-bats.

Darien hosts Ridgefield in its next game on Monday.
