Darien Softball to Face Foran Monday at Stratford

Game time for the Class L semifinal is 7 p.m.

The next destination on the path to a possible state championship for the Darien softball team is Stratford's Deluca Field.

The CIAC has announced the time and location for Darien's Class L semifinal against third-seeded Foran. The game will be played in Stratford on Monday night at 7 p.m.

Darien (22-3), the  No. 2 seed, advanced with a 7-2 victory over New Canaan on Friday as Brittany Osborn and Courtney Bell homered. Foran (20-4) reached the final four with an 11-4 win over No. 6 seed Brookfield, the reigning  South-West Conference champion.

In the other semifinal, top seed Bacon Academy faces No. 4 Masuk. The championship game is set for Friday or Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

Darien is seeking the first state championship in school history, although the Blue Wave did reach the final in 2009, losing to Waterford, 4-1.

Darien has a chance to put four teams in the semifinals of their respective state tournaments.

The boys lacrosse team, which is seeking a seventh consecutive state title, can get their with a win over Fairfield Ludlowe on Saturday (3 p.m.).

The Blue Wave will be a heavy favorite, having beaten the Falcons by a combined margin of 34-5 in the two previous meetings. Darien routed the Falcons 17-1 in the FCIAC quarterfinals.

The top-seeded Darien boys volleyball team reached the semifinals of the Class M tournament with a 3-0 win over Farmington on Friday and will take on No. 5 Fermi in the semifinals on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

Darien's girls lacrosse team plays at Guilford in the quarterfinals of the Class M tourney on Monday (4 p.m.).

Darien teams played in four FCIAC finals, winning championships in boys volleyball, boys lacrosse and softball. The girls lacrosse team fell to Wilton in the FCIAC final.
