Don't Shovel

Here we are again, bracing ourselves for another big snowstorm. Hopefully by this time, many of you realize that Darien does not have its own paramedics. Darien relies on paramedics from Stamford and Norwalk. These cities provide us with paramedics on an as available basis. So, don't shovel. If you have your heart attack while shoveling, it may take quite some time for paramedics to reach you. Paramedics have a tough enough time reaching victims in Darien in good weather. In snow, it is going to take that much longer. That is if paramedics will even be available. Stamford and Norwalk may have their own problems. Also, if you are thinking of having a stroke, try to put it off until after the storm. If your kids are prone to seizures, ask them to wait until after the storm. After the storm, paramedic response time will be too slow, but not as slow as during the storm. Stay tuned. Walter Casey.
